Babe Ruth scrapbooks : scrapbook, 1921-1935.

Ten scrapbooks documenting the career of Babe Ruth from 1921-1935 were created by Christy Walsh. Contains newspaper clippings of articles, black-and-white newsphotos, cartoons, advertisements, statistics, boxscores, and game recaps and playbills. Also contains miscellaneous black-and-white photographs, postcards, telegrams and letters addressed to Ruth. Volumes are arranged in approximate chronological order; however, due to date variances within each book, there is no truly accurate sequence. (Cont.) Volume 1, Part 3 contains material dated from October 14, 1922 to April 3, 1922 including the inside lining of a "Babe Ruth Cap". Also contains a number of congratulatory telegrams addressed to Ruth, celebrating the opening of his vaudeville act; many are from baseball figures, others are from general celebrities. (Cont.) Volume 5 contains material dated from October 13, 1924 to October 31, 1924, with some material from July to October, 1927. Concentrates on Ruth's barnstorming tours of the Western United States during the years 1924, 1926, and 1927, including many black-and- white photographs. (Cont.) Volume 7 contains material dated from September 4, 1926 to April 30, 1938. Contains articles about Ruth's theatrical performances. Also includes many black-and-white photographs, predominantly featuring Ruth visiting orphanages, as well as a team picture of the "Bustin' Babes"; Ruth's team during the 1927 barnstorming tour. Contains an original sketch of Ruth.

George Herman Ruth was born February 6, 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland to Katherine and George Herman Ruth Sr. In 1902, Ruth was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, an orphanage and reformatory, at the age of seven to teach him discipline.
